How do you book the Laugavegur huts for 2027, step by step?
Short answer
You book the Laugavegur huts yourself on Ferðafélag Íslands' booking site, vinna.fi.is: pick the 2027 tab, choose a 3-, 4- or 5-night package, select a start date, add guests (max 6 per booking) and pay by card within 15 minutes. The 5-night hut package was listed at 90,000 ISK per adult in October 2026; a hut night cost 17,000 ISK in 2026. Popular July and August dates sell out fast, so be ready when new dates are released.

Booking the Laugavegur huts is not hard, but it is unforgiving. Dates appear in batches, the best ones go quickly, and the checkout holds your beds for only 15 minutes. If you know the steps before you start, you won’t lose a slot to a slow card payment.
This guide walks through the booking site of Ferðafélag Íslands (FÍ) as it worked when we checked it on 22 October 2026. For prices, facilities and capacity of each hut, see our guide to the Laugavegur huts.

For reference: a hut night cost 17,000 ISK in 2026 and camping about 3,400–3,600 ISK. The listed 5-night price works out to 18,000 ISK a night, but the site doesn’t label every listing with a year. FÍ has published a price list valid from 1 May 2027, which we couldn’t read in full, so check the total in your cart before you pay.
Before you start
- Choose hut, tent or a mix. Huts are sold as packages. FÍ also sells combinations where one night is in a rented tent at Emstrur, which are a little cheaper.
- Choose the number of nights. The 4-day hike we describe in our stage-by-stage overview (12, 12, 16 and 15 km) matches the 5-night package: Landmannalaugar, Hrafntinnusker, Álftavatn or Hvanngil, Emstrur and Þórsmörk. The 3-night packages skip Hrafntinnusker and Emstrur, which means two very long days.
- Pick Álftavatn or Hvanngil. Both appear as separate package variants. The price is the same.
- Sign up for FÍ’s mailing list. In 2026, FÍ announced new release dates only through its mailing list. It’s the easiest way to hear when more 2027 dates open.
- Have your card and your group’s details ready. You’ll need them inside the 15-minute window.
Step by step on vinna.fi.is
Step 1: open the booking page and choose 2027
Go to the FÍ booking page (vinna.fi.is/en/boka/). It shows “everything that is currently available to book”. Click the 2027 tab, then filter on Packages/Huts or Packages/Combination. Single huts and campsites have their own filters.
Step 2: open a Laugavegur package
Each package shows its itinerary day by day. Check that the stops match your plan, including Álftavatn or Hvanngil.
Step 3: pick your arrival date
The calendar is colour-coded:
- Green: more than 10 places left
- Yellow: 6–10 places
- Orange: 1–5 places
- Red: fully booked
For packages you only choose the start date. The other nights follow automatically. Single huts and campsites need both an arrival and a departure date.
Step 4: add your guests
Select the number of guests in each age bracket. One booking can hold at most 6 people. A larger group needs a second booking, so agree beforehand who books what.
Step 5: book and pay within 15 minutes
Click Book Now. The package goes into your cart and you go straight to checkout. From that moment there’s a 15-minute reservation lock. If you haven’t paid by then, the places are released. Payment is by credit or debit card, and the booking is only confirmed once it’s paid in full. FÍ then emails your vouchers. You can find them again under My Bookings.
Step 6: book everything else afterwards
Only book your highland bus, parking and flights once the huts are confirmed. See getting to Landmannalaugar for the bus and the parking rules.
Cancellation and changes
| When you cancel | Refund on huts and packages |
|---|---|
| 56 days or more before arrival | 75% |
| 55–21 days before | 50% |
| 20 days or less | none |
| Road to Landmannalaugar closed | 100% |
A few rules that catch people out:
- Packages are all or nothing. You can’t cancel single nights from a 3-, 4- or 5-night package.
- No refund for weather, natural events, delays or no-shows.
- Campsites are different: a full refund up to 2 days before the first night, nothing after that.
- Bookings for resale can be cancelled by FÍ.
- Email doesn’t work. In 2026 FÍ stated that bookings can’t be made or requested by email.
Tips for release days
- Be online when a batch opens and go straight to checkout. Don’t browse other packages while your cart is locked.
- Have a plan B date. If your date turns orange or red, a weekday start or a date in late August often still has room.
- Check back. FÍ says the list “is updated regularly and may change”, so cancellations do reappear.
- Mind the season edges. For stays before 20 June or after 15 September, FÍ warns that running water may not be available and conditions can be hazardous.
If you’d rather not race a 15-minute timer, a self-guided or guided trip with The Iceland Trail comes with huts or pitches booked in advance, transfers arranged, and the option of luggage transport between the stops.
